The roots of the African American Culture are from west and central Africa. They carried over many traditions as a blend of west and Central African culture. Those traditions were made almost obsolete by the start of Slavery. They were stripped of their traditions and were taught to have a new one. Instead of their traditions completely dying out, they instead blended with the European and American cultures. They acquired new characteristics from the new blend of culture. The new and reformed African American culture was created during this time and because of this left a lasting impact on America. After freedom from slavery, many unique traits and innovations flourished. During times of racial discrimination, differences between the European and African American cultures began to become greater. Their culture has been formed through the different events in our country and that is why their culture is they way it is today.
Today they are associated with urban culture and the majority of them live in cities. They have grown to be one of America's largest cultures and have many different influences in our world today (African 1-2)
